OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY
Obstetrics & Gynaecology is a medical specialty dedicated to the care of women’s reproductive health across all stages of life. Obstetrics focuses on pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care, ensuring the health and safety of both mother and baby.
Gynaecology deals with disorders of the female reproductive system, including the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, and vagina. Common conditions treated include menstrual disorders, infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic infections, and cancers of the reproductive organs. Specialists also provide family planning, contraception advice, antenatal checkups, high-risk pregnancy management, and menopausal care.
Conditions may include irregular periods, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, infertility, vaginal discharge, pregnancy-related problems, and menopause symptoms.
Diagnosis involves clinical examination, ultrasound, blood and hormone tests, Pap smear, pregnancy tests, and other investigations to assess reproductive and maternal health.
